What is the best shampoo for breakage?

I have a lot of breakage and a lot of my hairs fall out after a shower. My hair sticks up like crazy, like frizz, but no frizz products work because it's breakage. The hairs are shorter, curly, and split (all over the place). I have blonde, medium thick hair, and layers (which I am getting cut off). What hair products and shampoos work best to prevent breakage and/or to help it? I saw Herbal Essences 'Breaks Up'. Does that work? I need some new shampoo soon, so I need ideas. Thanks!

HI, Im a stylist and a National Educator for JOhn Paul Mitchell Systems... please do not use Herbal Essences, in my experience, the worst brands on the market are that one, panteen, and garnier fructis... if your hair is color treated, which it sounds like, then you are going to need to invest in a professional shampoo for color treated hair like Paul MItchell color protect daily shampoo and daily conditioner, as well as a weekly deep conditioner like PM color protect treatment... it is natural to loose hair in the shower, most people loose somewhere around a 100 hairs a day, however the breakage could be caused by a number of factors... if you are blowdrying, and ironing your hair daily, this can have a huge effect on your hair, especially if it is color treated, more so if it is lightened. unfortunately you will just have to let the breakage grow out. but make sure that you are getting regular haircuts to make sure that the split ends do not have the chance to travel up the hair strand. its better to have shorter hair (dont worry hair grows back) than it is to have unhealthy hair... no matter what, if its long and broken its not going to look good. hope this helps

Last summer I went lighter with my blonde hair and it dried it out pretty good so I broke down and spent the money for Pureology and Im still using it today. Its the best. My hair was back to normal in no time. I would suggest trying that line.

No shampoo or conditioner can actually repair damage done to your hair, no matter what they claim. Your hair strands are dead, all you can do is use products to make it appear differently.

Deep conditioner is going to be your best friend. Shampoo, not so much. A lot of people overuse shampoo, you only need a small amount on your scalp. It's ingredients are really harsh for your hair, also try washing your hair every other day or every 2 days. Especially if you have curly hair, curly hair and shampoo and mortal enemies! That's the best thing I've ever done for my hair. I'd aim for a gentle shampoo and a deep conditioner like Biolage.

The absolute best is the new brand called Organix. It has organic active ingredients and is sulfate free so it wont dry out your hair, plus...it smells awesome! They have different collections for different hair types which are all amazing! You can get organix at Target, Kroger, Safeway, Duane Reade, Albertsons, etc. You'll love it!!!

I am a stylist and several of my clients have suffered from extremely, dry and breaking hair as a result of using poor hair styling techniques and bad hair care products. Believe or not, one of the best things you can do take care of your hair from home to make it more moisturized. I have some great home remedies and tips for you. If you use them all, your hair will be stronger, longer, and healthier.

Tip # 1: Do conditioning pre-wash treatments to your hair before shampooing it. Simply whip up 2 tablespoons of Mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, and 1 egg. Let it remain on your hair for at least an hour. It will tame and soften your hair, strengthen your roots and strands, and reduce your need for any chemicals or heat on your hair. Do this 2-3 times a week.

Tip # 2: Do a hot oil treatment once a month of your hair. Use olive, canola, or any oil you have. Warm it for 10-30 seconds in a bowl and apply.

Tip # 3: Buy a high quality, all natural hair product for your hair. Find one that contains powerful essential oils, natural herbs, and vitamin rich nutrients your hair needs to thrive. Look for products with ingredients such as: Aloe Vera, Citrus Fruits, Jojoba, Rosemary, and Sage. Make sure you stray away from all natural products that use natural extracts. Extracts are not as powerful as essentials oils. Also stay away from most products in drugstores and beauty supply stores. They contain phosphates, sodium lauryl sulfate, petroleum, mineral oil, and other lab created humectants that ultimately damage your hair. To give your hair a salon quality look and restore its moisture I recommend trying GodHead Anti Breakage Serum and/or their A Double Portion Super Hair Growth Conditioner. The product is made by Beauty 4 Ashes and I use it on many of my clients. This conditioner will hydrate your hair and infuse your scalp with essential oils made to treat damaged, dry, dull, and lifeless hair. The product also contains moisturizing Aloe Vera, Coconut Oil, Vitamin E, and Jojoba, which will rejuvenate your strands and make your hair more bouncy, shiny, moisturized and healthy. You can find it at wwwdiscoverb4acom. I highly recommend it.

Tip # 4: Eat a protein rich diet, full of eggs, beans, cheese, and fish. Drink plenty of water and take a multivitamin.
