Why is it on tv that long haired women get haircuts later in the series of whatever show they'r

For example,

Rose from Dr.Who got her hair cut in later in the season she was in.

The lady from Medium had great looking long hair and now in the series, it nowhere near her collar.

I noticed this happening to half the long haired women on tv, why does that happen? Can't they have hair the way they want?

Long to shot gets the most people to notice. Most ladies would not go to a hairdresser and spend heaps of money and not be upset if nobody notices. That is one possibility.

Another is that it is easy to recognise long to short hair changes but not short to long as it tends to grow slowly.

To indicate change and progress in the unreal world as well, I suppose.

Maybe it's all women on tv, and you only notice the long to short haircuts, and not the short to short haircuts??

In NCIS, Director Jenny Shepard got her haircut but that could be an authority thing
