What do you think of long hair on women over 55?

I have a 13 year old daughter. I don't want to look like her grandmother. I color my hair to a medium brown. and am letting it grow. It is thin and shiny. Silky, very much so, but thin from an earlier short cut. I am at the point to where it is either cut it short of suffer through growing it longer and getting it cut to make it appear thicker...what should i do??

i think women over 55 look alot more classy and nice with short hair. When i see older women with long hair it makes me think they are not "in" and i mean in fashion. For an older women having short hair only down to the ears is a lot better ;)

I'm of the belief that you shouldn't follow the 'rules' when it comes to style. Some people look great with short hair, others do not. A rare few can pull either look off. So, my advice is for you to decide which YOU prefer. Which look makes YOU feel better about your appearance? Which look makes YOU look younger? Personally, short hair on me ages me 10 years...so I avoid it.

I agree with the above, I think longer hair on older women makes them age. But go with what you like.........if you've made it through being at least 55 you deserve to have whatever color and style YOU want! Go for it!

I think you should do whatever you want to with your hair.

If you want it thicker though, I hear that taking a vitamin E supplement helps. Or you could try the shampoo 'Mane n' tail', I hear it makes your hair thicker and grow faster.

My grandmother had the most beautiful silky hair and I absolutely loved it... Especially when I was very little and she would let me help her brush it... Aww... I miss her :(

Hey, I have waist length hair, I have a 16 yr old son and I'm almost 40, my mum tells me I must get it cut as it will age me but I don't think I ever will, people are always shocked when they ask my age as they tend to think I'm in my 20s (god knows how old they think I was when I had my son!!!)

I am a hairdresser, i have women of all ages with all lengths of hair. i think that it is all about what you want! what you make of it! if you tend to dress in fashion then you can go either way but if fashion/maintenance is not your thing (which is fine) then having a style that is just long and boring that you wash and do nothing with you are sure to feel older than you are but don't have a haircut for a few more weeks and see how you feel at the end of the day you can always grow it hate it and cut it off again but it will take much longer to get to where you are now good luck :) most of all if you love it so will everyone else!!!!!!

My wife grew her hair long after she turned 50. She looks great and people now think she's ten years younger when they meet her for the first time.
